EWOK RESCUE! 2018 UBC ENGINEERING PHYSICS ROBOT COMPETITION
For more than fifteen years, this robotics competition has been a core part of the second year UBC Engineering Physics program. The competition acts as the final exam of our intensive four month course, ENPH 253: Introduction to Instrument Design. For most of us, this was our first time getting practice in
Engineering design and instrument development including mechanical and electrical design
Communications with sensors, and actuators
Micro-controller implementation and system integration
The Challenge
Chewbacca and his adorable Ewok associates are trapped inside the evil Empire stronghold! Our role was to develop a autonomous robot to save Chewbacca and the Ewoks.
The Competition Surface
- Follow a tape path up a ramp to the first Ewok
- Cross a chasm to rescue the second Ewok
- Wait for an IR signal before entering the Empire stronghold to avoid triggering the stormtrooper alarm
- Cross a second chasm to climb up onto the prison tower
- Traverse a suspension bridge above a lava pit
- Ride a zipline back to rescue rendezvous point at the start of the course
